Is OpenCIAM really free?
Yes. The core platform is Apache-2.0 licensed and free to self-host with no cap on monthly active users. You only pay if you choose our managed cloud or an enterprise agreement.
Do you charge per monthly active user?
Self-hosting has no MAU charge at all. Cloud is free up to 7,500 MAU and then scales with predictable usage-based pricing — no overage cliffs or feature paywalls on security basics.
Can I move from cloud to self-hosted later?
Always. It is the same engine and the same data model, with a documented export/import path. There is no lock-in by design.
Are MFA and SSO behind a paywall?
No. Unlike most incumbents, passkeys, MFA, and SSO are included in the free tier. Security shouldn't be an upsell.
